Southern Utah Ghost Towns
Class - Fall Only | Registration opens Saturday, August 29, 2026 9:30 AM MDT
This course will provide an overview of ghost towns in Washington County and two ghost towns in Iron County, Utah. The course consists of two classroom lectures and six field trips to historic ghost towns. Ghost towns discussed will include: Atkinville, Bloomington, Price, Tonaquint, Harrisburg, Hebron, Dalton, Duncan's Retreat, Grafton, Adventure, Northrop and Shunesburg in Washington County, as well as Irontown and Stateline in Iron County.
Classroom lectures will be held on Friday, Sept. 18 and Friday, Oct. 23 from 11:00-11:50am in Hazy 121.
Ghost Town field trips are on Tuesdays: Sept. 22 & 29, Oct. 6, 13, 27 and Nov. 3rd.

9/22 Tuesday: Field Trip to Camp Lorenzo - 7:45am-1pm
9/29 Tuesday: Field Trip to Hebron Cemetery - 7:45am-1pm
10/6 Tuesday: Field Trip to Harrisburg Cemetery - 7:45am-12pm
10/13 Tuesday: Field Trip to Grafton - 7:45am-1pm
10/23 Friday: Classroom lecture on ghost towns Dalton, Mountain Dell, Adventure, Northrop, Duncan's Retreat, Shunesburg and Zion.
10/27 Tuesday: Field Trip to Stateline and Irontown ghost towns - 7:45am-4pm
11/3 Tuesday: Field Trip to Silver Reef Museum and ghost town - 7:45am-11am (bring $4 entrance fee for museum)
Loren Webb
Loren is a native of St. George. He serves as a Washington County Historical Society board member and teaches three classes for ICL. He is a retired Clark County (NV) School District 7th grade U.S. History/World Geography teacher. Loren has been a reporter in community journalism in Southern Nevada, Southern and Southcentral Utah for 14 years.
