History of Washington County, Utah
Class - Fall Only | Registration opens Saturday, August 29, 2026 9:30 AM MDT
A course of study that discusses Utah generally, but focuses special attention on the exploration, settlement and development of Utah's Dixie (Washington County). The course will use as its text, A History of Washington County, From Isolation to Destination by Douglas D. Alder and Karl E. Brooks. Students will gain a better understanding of the people and the events that have shaped the history of southwestern Utah, including the land and its early inhabitants, settlement, isolation, and the Americanization of Washington County, Utah. One field trip will be planned.
Loren Webb
Loren is a native of St. George. He serves as a Washington County Historical Society board member and teaches three classes for ICL. He is a retired Clark County (NV) School District 7th grade U.S. History/World Geography teacher. Loren has been a reporter in community journalism in Southern Nevada, Southern and Southcentral Utah for 14 years.

- Served on a volunteer basis from 1992 to 1996 as chairman, Washington County Centennial History Committee, which worked with two authors (Doug Alder and Karl Brooks) to update the history of Washington County, Utah as part of a Utah State Historical Society project to update the county histories of all 29 counties of Utah
- Co-taught History of Utah's Dixie (evening course) with local historian Bart Anderson from January to March 1991 under direction of Dixie College History Professor Robert Slack
