BrainWorks: A Toolbox for the Mind
Class: Repeats in Spring | Registration opens Saturday, August 29, 2026 9:30 AM MDT
BrainWorks, an interactive workshop, introduces a journalistic version of neural plasticity--the fact that we grow brain and direct that growth throughout life. The Toolbox details three essential tools to direct the brain for most any outcome. What do you want to do? Slow and Reverse Aging; Improve Memory and Concentration; Create Wellness; Recover from Stroke, TBI, Cancer; Improve Communication and Relationships; Find Common Ground? You pick! The first 50 minutes will be lecture/workshop; the final 30 minutes, optional time for personal application and reflection.
There is a $12 non-refundable fee for the BrainWorks workbook. (NOTE: The new workbooks are professionally printed and bound. If you plan to reuse your workbook from a previous semester, you must still pay the $12 fee to register, but if you let Jill know during the first class, she will get you reimbursed.)
Class meets twice a week on Tuesday & Thursday: Oct. 20, 22, 27, 29 and Nov. 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19.
Jill Wilks
After 35 years teaching writing and neural plasticity at Southern Utah University, Jill retired early to allow travel time to present her book, Your Expanding Intelligence, to leaders in medicine, mental health, education and government. But instead, she was a passenger in a high-speed accident and spent 13 years using neural plasticity and the BrainWorks Toolbox to recover from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The course that Jill designed and implemented at SUU included new students, faculty, and staff from across campus. When student success rates soared, the administration made the course required for graduation and faculty/staff training. Jill is now back from the TBI, recovering from recovery and rewriting BrainWorks for the unlimited applications of plasticity beyond school, work and wellness.
