Landscape Painting Essentials
Class - Fall Only | Registration opens Saturday, August 29, 2026 9:30 AM MDT
Have you ever tried to paint a landscape that just didn’t turn out right? There are some concepts and techniques specific to landscape painting that can help us produce better art. Using the acronym S-I-M-P-L-E, we’ll look at topics such as composition, perspective and scale, and “believable” color that can greatly improve our paintings. We will explore these concepts by observing the works of well-known landscape artists and then applying these specific landscape techniques to our own artwork through in-class and take-home exercises. In-class exercises will be done using pencil and water-based mediums such as acrylic or gouache, although the principles and techniques can also be applied to other mediums, such as oil paint or pastels. This course is not for beginners, but rather for those who have some painting experience and would like to improve their approach to painting landscapes.
A list of both required and suggested materials will be provided at the first class.
NO CLASS on Oct. 6th.
