Exploring National and State Parks in Southern Utah and Vicinity
Class - Fall Only | Registration opens Saturday, August 29, 2026 9:30 AM MDT
This 4-week course will cover national and state parks in southern Utah, northwestern Arizona and southeastern Nevada (Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Zion), national monuments in Utah, SE Nevada, and northern Arizona and include a few Utah state parks (Fremont Indian State Park, Anasazi State Park, Edge of the Cedars State Park, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Snow Canyon State Park, etc.). The course will include an overview and insider tips for exploring the best of each area.
Each week we will cover the following:
- History and Overview of the parks and monuments
- Geology of the parks and monuments
- Insider tips for exploring each area
Diana Hawks
Diana has an associate's degree in Geology from Ricks College and bachelor's and master's degrees in Prehistoric Archaeology from BYU. She retired from the Bureau of Land Management where she worked for 27 years as an archaeologist and team leader in northwestern Arizona. She currently works for Road Scholar as an educator and trip leader on 10-day road trips to the national and state parks of southern Utah and northern Arizona. She also serves as the tour guide for ICL’s annual bus trip.
