DAS May 2 field trip to Fredonia

Field Trip/Hike | Available

Saturday, May 2nd - DAS field trip to two sites near Fredonia.

Meet at 8:30am at Black Bear Restaurant, Exit 13, for a departure shortly thereafter.

Bring: Proper boots, a layer for warmth if needed, water, snacks, and lunch.

High clearance vehicle is necessary for part of the trip. 4wd drive is not needed. Carpooling is always recommended.

We will stop at the Apple Valley Chevron for a brief break on the way to Fredonia. The sites are near Fredonia and include the Clamshell, a very distinctive alcove/cave with a large rock inside with a number of archaic petroglyphs. The view from the Clamshell over the Arizona Strip is spectacular. The second site is nearby and consists of many large white pictographs that are Paiute. Both sites require a short, moderately steep climb of about 100 feet. We expect to return to St George around 3:30pm.

NO DOGS allowed on field trips, per Utah Tech policy.
