Phone and Computer Maps
Class: Repeats in Spring | Registration opens Monday, January 5, 2026 9:30 AM MST
Use maps to explore, navigate, hike, locate geotagged photos, and sightsee. Four classes will survey what’s possible using different map apps and provide how-to-do references. Last semester’s information is reorganized.
Classes
1. Using AI, curated Internet links and YouTube to learn how to operate map apps - Location and Navigation Fundamentals.
2. Google Earth Possibilities (exploring and geotagged photos).
3. Travel possibilities: Google Maps (highway) - AllTrails (trails) - Gaia GPS (trails and unpaved roads).
4. Sightseeing: Parus Trail Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park, SR 14 using Avenza Maps.
NO CLASS on March 10 (Spring Break)
Bruce Vandre
Bruce Vandre holds a degree in geological engineering and professional licenses in civil engineering and geology. Employment history includes: geotechnical consulting engineering firms in San Francisco, Portland & Salt Lake City - Intermountain Region USDA Forest - Utah Dept. of Transportation. Bruce retired to St. George to look at rocks and avoid shoveling snow. His hobbies include photography, map making and writing eBook Landscape Guides.
