In this course, we will explore excerpts, essays, and poetry from natural history writers like Mary Oliver, Aldo Leopold, Wendell Berry, Terry Tempest Williams, and others. Through reading, reflection, and discussion, you will deepen your understanding of our connection to the earth and each other, fostering appreciation for the intricate relationships that sustain all living things.

Sandy Ferrell

Sandy Ferrell holds a Secondary Teaching Certificate with endorsements in Administration, Environmental Science, and Biology. At Dixie High, she taught a course called Writing About the Land, which integrated reading, writing, and science. She also led a week-long Utah State Office of Education course for teachers, combining science and writing, held on the Green River through Desolation Canyon. A lifelong explorer of canyons, rivers, deserts, and other wild places, Sandy found these landscapes to be powerful teachers in how to live a meaningful and grounded life.
