Revolutionary War Seminar

Based on Tuchman's book 'The March of Folly' this course explores little-known aspects of the American Revolutionary War, as well as avoidable mistakes committed by the British government, without which this war need never have been fought.
During 15 years of a deteriorating relationship with the American Colonies, Britain repeatedly took measures that damaged that relationship. In the end, Britain made rebels where there had been none. This class will explore the reasons behind Britain's pursuit of policy contrary to self-interest, as described in Barbara Tuchman's masterful 1984 book.

Doug Bowen holds a BA in German Literature and has taught for ICL since 2003. He and his family moved to St. George in 1990, after Doug retired as a non-profit agency executive in several states and Germany. Doug has been planning ICL’s Annual Geology bus tour since 2018.
