Banning Books & Other Forms of Expression

Class Continues: Spring | This course is completed

This course will explore the historical and contemporary forces surrounding the concepts of freedom of speech and other forms of expression. Each class will discuss how the concept has evolved over time, both nationally and internationally. Classes will also review particular books that have been banned or challenged and the reasons for those movements. Additionally, we will discuss some of the legal issues and decisions regarding freedom of expression.

Silvia Mangen

Silvia Mangen has Bachelor's and Graduate degrees in education, school psychology, child psychology, and an administrative certificate (St. Cloud State University (MN), University of Minnesota, and University of Montana). She has worked as a teacher, school psychologist, and director of special education cooperative. Silvia has also taught classes on poetry for ICL, as well as her course, Banning Books & Other Forms of Expression.
