Banning Books & Other Forms of Expression
Class Continues: Spring | Registration opens Friday, January 3, 2025 9:30 AM MST
This course will explore the historical and contemporary forces surrounding the concepts of freedom of speech and other forms of expression. Each class will discuss how the concept has evolved over time, both nationally and internationally. Classes will also review particular books that have been banned or challenged and the reasons for those movements. Additionally, we will discuss some of the legal issues and decisions regarding freedom of expression.

Silvia Mangen holds a Bachelor's in English Literature and Speech (Communication Arts), St. Cloud State University, MN; Masters in Child Psychology; Educational Specialist in School Psychological Services, University of Minnesota; and Administration Certification in Montana. She taught middle school in MN and worked as school psychologist and director of special education cooperative in Montana.
