Southwest Archaeology - An Introduction

Class - Spring Only | This course is completed

The Introduction to Southwestern Archaeology course focuses on Southwestern Utah and Northwestern Arizona. The course will use Powerpoint Presentations and discussions to cover the prehistory and history of the local area including the Paleoindian, Archaic, Formative (Ancestral Puebloan and Fremont cultures), Protohistoric and Historic periods. The class will include information on the native tribes in the area today and local opportunities for volunteer archaeological work.

This is an 8-week course.

Diana Hawks

Diana Hawks has an Associate's degree in Geology and a BS and MA in Prehistoric Archaeology. She has lived in St. George since 1991 and worked as an archaeologist since 1975. In retirement, she works part-time for Road Scholar as an educator on bus tours to the national and state parks of southern Utah and northern Arizona.
