3 Day Alla Prima Still-Life Workshop

In-Person Workshop | Available

Join award-winning instructor Antonio Lones for a lively, hands-on three day workshop diving into the bold, immediate world of alla prima still life painting. This is a fast paced, wet into wet, “think on your feet” experience designed to loosen you up, sharpen your eye, and get you making stronger, more confident decisions on the canvas.

The first day kicks off with a full demo, where Antonio will paint a still life from start to finish, sharing his approach to simplification, color, and capturing the essence of a subject without overworking it. In the afternoon, you’ll jump right in and complete your first painting, with plenty of one-on-one feedback to keep things moving in the right direction.

Over the next two days, you’ll take on two more still life paintings creating your own setups and calling the shots. Antonio will guide you through composition and design choices, helping you think more intentionally about how to arrange, light, and edit your subject for maximum impact.

You’ll leave the workshop with three finished paintings, a stronger grasp of alla prima techniques, and a fresh, more playful approach to both painting and composition. Expect to work hard, take risks, and have a genuinely fun time doing it.

Antonio Lones

Antonio Lones was born and raised in El Salvador. From a very early age he was involved in artistic activities. His teachers had noticed his affinity for drawing since elementary school, but it wasn’t until 2011 that he was first introduced to formal drawing and painting methods but with no guidance. In 2013, leaving his studies in architecture he moved to the U.S. pursuing ‘the American dream’. He had been very influenced by the realist movement and the classical methodology and as a self-taught artist he kept creating artworks while he was learning a new language. Taking his appreciation for classical painting and portraiture, he started to search for art schools in Boston, which ultimately led him to enroll at ARA Boston in 2018, after receiving a one year full tuition scholarship.

He participated in a group show in 2017/18 which showcased Latino heritage in the Somerville Public Library, MA. In 2020 he won first place in the November self portrait challenge from New Masters Academy with the best technical skill award. In 2021 he won the people's choice award from Richeson Still life and Floral competition. Currently, he is working as instructor while he finishes the main program and starting to build his own series of personal paintings.
