Master the techniques of creating three-dimensional illusions in oil paint in this two-day webinar with instructor Eric Johnson. Through a live demonstration of a trompe-l’œil still life, participants will learn how to manipulate light, shadow, edges, and texture to achieve remarkable depth and realism. This workshop will also cover key technical aspects of oil painting that are essential for executing such illusions.

  • Day 1: Foundations of Illusion in Oil Paint

    • Explore the intelligent selection surface for trompe-l’œil painting, including substrate and ground and tone.

    • Learn how to work sight-size from life to accurately replicated the proportions that you see.

    • Learn how to mix and apply a controllable palette of colors to achieve accurate value relationships and subtle transitions.

    • See how to block in major shapes and establish a strong light and shadow structure.

  • Day 2: Refining and Polishing the Illusion
