Would you like to know a secret to predictably make cohesive artworks with harmonious relationship of the elements, high aesthetic quality, and comprehensible message? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find yourself in possession of devices or information that allows you to always create successful imagery, regardless of the subject, be it a landscape, portrait, or still life?

An artistic discipline dealing with the organization of elements of art is called composition. It is a broad field of artistic knowledge that one cannot hope to master quickly, in the course of a 2-day workshop. But we can dip our toes into the basic principles, can’t we?

In this workshop, suitable for both beginners and seasoned artists, we shall come up with helpful strategies to approach artwork design. We shall start with some theory, then proceed to analyzing composition of famous paintings and why it works (I’ll throw in some abstract works as well), do exercises, and ultimately create several versions of a strong still life design.

All levels welcome

Sinkovski, Lyasya

Lyasya Sinkovski is a Boston-based artist and art instructor. She was born and raised in Moscow, Russia. Despite having drawn most of her life, Lyasya received a degree in Linguistics, summa cum laude, and made a successful career in marketing before switching to art. Lyasya was inspired by and studied Russian academic drawing techniques, but had no formal training. She has always strongly believed that drawing is a foundation of any skill-based art. In 2019 Lyasya received a scholarship at Academy of Realist Art, Boston. Since then, she completed the drawing part of the program and is now studying painting.

Loyal to her first love, drawing, Lyasya teaches Bargue/cast at ARA Boston, while giving private and small group art classes at her home studio in Roslindale and working on her personal projects, mostly portraits. Lyasya’s drawings has won several awards and have been exhibited in Boston City Hall.
