Chiaroscuro, (from Italian chiaro, “light,” and scuro, “dark”) is a term employed by the artist to represent the dramatic relationship of light and shadow as they define three-dimensional objects.
In this 6 week online webinar, Instructor Eric Johnson will show the entire creation process on a chiaroscuro focused still- life painting from beginning to end. Every brushstroke will be recorded, that means you will have unlimited access to all 36 hours of the painting demonstration! This includes composition, lighting and studio set up as well as an old master systematic method of indirect painting. This will include many talks about materials like pigments, oils and surfaces as well as full elaboration and demonstration of underpainting, overpainting, impasto and glazing. There will also be a strong emphasis on painting in an archival manner to ensure that the paintings will age well against the test of time.
