Discover basic color theory to feel comfortable using colors. Colorful art can be a tool toward enhancing physical and emotional wellness.

  • Canvas: canvas boards (no smaller than 16x20)
Brushes: at least 4 sizes - about 3/4" flat, 1/2" flat, or filbert; 1/4" round and one detail thin brush. Brushes should be firm but soft. Synthetic brushes are great for acrylic.
Acrylic paints: titanium white, black, raw umber, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow deep, ultramraine blue, Prussian of phthalo blue, sap green magenta, cadmium red, Alizarin crimson. (If you prefer to start with a set, have at least 1 white, 1 black, 1 brown, 1 yellow, 1 red, 1 blue, and 1 green). The more colors you have the better.
Palette with lid: Buy one or use a large food container with a tight lid. Line it with aluminum foil for easy cleaning and use a wet sponge to keep your paints fresh.
    Container for water.
Paper towels or rags to clean brushes.
    Pencil and eraser.
