Working from your personal photo references, explore techniques of painting landscape scenes which include ocean, river, lake or marsh views, along with boats, wading birds or shorebirds common to Florida’s waterways. This is an opportunity to work in the direct oil painting method (alla prima), and/or the indirect method of applying oil paint in layers to build more structured and detailed paintings. Some aspects of composition and design in landscape painting will be covered. We will use the three-value sketch to determine the best design for your paintings, possibly combining elements from different photo references. Demonstrations will cover techniques for painting reflections in water, variations in foliage, achieving distance/depth with value and temperature changes, and manipulating edges.
Prerequisites are Oil Painting I and Drawing I, or equivalent experience
