Daily Painting: Guide to Painting Small and Often
PD-Class | This class is completed
Practice, practice, practice -- the mantra of every discipline from baseball to Bach. But it’s not easy to find time to create when life is so demanding. This course offers techniques to help you commit to painting small and often. At the end of the class, you’ll know more about your personal artistic style and how to overcome common barriers to creativity. Working from still-life and photos, you’ll have a small body of work (12 to 18 paintings), tools for your ongoing practice, and ways to exhibit your work (for fun and profit). This is an acrylics class, but oils are fine if the student has previous experience. All classroom demonstrations will center on acrylic painting techniques. Skill level: All
- Please contact the instructors at debbie@debbiemillerstudio.com if you have questions about any of the supplies or need suggestions about where to find the referenced materials. Locally, both Art Systems of Florida (Winter Park) and Sam Flax (Orlando) offer a discount on select art supplies for Crealdé students.
- PAINT: You will need 2 ounces or more of each of the following colors in an artist-grade heavy body acrylic: Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson Hue, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Yellow Light, Quinacridone Magenta, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue (Green Shade), Titanium White, Cadmium Orange, Raw Umber, and Neutral Grey (Value 5). Optional colors that you may want to have: Dioxazine Purple, Cerulean Blue Deep and Black (Mars or Carbon Black).
- BRUSHES: We recommend a bristle (natural or synthetic) that has a bit of “snap” (firmness). You will need Brights or Flats, size 10, 8, 6, & 4.
- PAINTING SUBSTRATES: Each week we will provide 6” x 6” hardboard panels or other substrates for the paintings and exercises we complete in class. If you prefer a different type of canvas or board, you are welcome to bring them. We recommend no smaller than 6” per side and no larger than 8” per side.
- OTHER SUPPLIES: Palette (disposable paper palette or a palette that doesn’t have individual wells is preferable); rags, paper towels, or babywipes; an apron, smock, or clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on.
- OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Willow charcoal (soft) or charcoal pencil (4B or softer), white charcoal pencil, Smart phone with camera, and the Snapseed and See Value Apps (we recommend upgrading to paid version of the See Value app for $0.99).
