245-Watercolor Reflections on Water

This workshop will demonstrate to students how to become more proficient in painting various bodies of water and reflections in watercolor. Basic and advanced techniques of applying watercolor washes, glazes, and wet into wet techniques. The class will be taught through step-by-step demonstrations by the instructor. Students will receive one-on-one feedback from the instructor, there will be individual and group critiques. The workshop is designed for novice, intermediate or advanced students.

  • All students must comply with the Policies and Procedures found on The Center's website. There will be no refunds for students removed from class for failure to observe The Center’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Watercolor Paint – Tubes of paint, Da Vinci or Winsor-Newton. Colors Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson Red, Sap Green, Hookers Green, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Burnt Umber, Burn Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Prussian blue, Cerulean Blue, and Paynes Gray.

    Watercolor Paper – Buy good quality paper like Arches. In 140lb in both hot and cold press paper. Sizes 12”x16” or 18” x24”. Arches watercolor paper that has the page glued on all four sides.

    Tracing Paper – Size 18” x 24”

    Brushes – Large wash brush, 3/8” flat brush, #1 around brush, #6 around brush, #10 around brush, #12 around brush, and #16 around brush (Approximate sizes). 

    Pencils - 2H drawing pencil and 6B Pencil.

    Miscellaneous Supplies - Blue painters’ tape, plastic containers hold water, large size plastic watercolor palette with lid, and white eraser.

    Foam Core or Drawing Board - To tape your paper on. The board should be approximately two inches larger on all sides to accommodate watercolor paper.

James Powles education consists of an Ed.D. from The College of St Elizabeth, M.A. in Fine Arts Education from Kean University, and a B.A. in Fine Arts/Studio from Montclair State University. He has 25 years of teaching experience in the New Jersey’s public school system. His artwork is in numerous corporate and private collections. As well as being exhibited in professional art galleries.
