137-Exploring Watercolor

Are you familiar with the basics of watercolor and need help growing your technique? This class is for you. We'll build on the basic strokes by painting from photographs or a still life with attention to each individual's needs.
140 lb Arches watercolor paper or equivalent, minimum 9"x12"
Mounting board and tape, unless using a watercolor block
Round brushes, sizes 8 and 12, flat wash or mop brush 1" size
Watercolor sketchbook for experimenting and notes (optional)
pencil and eraser
Paints - I use Winsor Newton, Daniel Smith and DaVinci brands. Bring your favorite colors; the following colors are suggestions:

- Cadmium yellow or cad yellow light
- Lemon yellow
- Quinacridone Gold
- Raw Sienna or Yellow Ochre
- Burnt Sienna
- Cadmium red or Cadmium red light
- Quinacridone Rose or Permanent Rose
- Alizarin Crimson
- Winsor (Dioxazine) Violet
- Ultramarine Blue
- Cerulean
- Cobalt
- Winsor (phthalo) Blue
- Winsor (phthalo) Green or Hookers Green
- Sap green
Palette with space for mixing colors, extra mixing palettes if needed (small butcher trays, white plastic or ceramic plates, etc.). I use a Pike palette, and don't need extra mixing containers.
Wendy Hallstrom
Wendy is a multidisciplinary artist in watercolor, acrylics, egg tempera and pysanky. She has exhibited in New Jersey and the surrounding area, and her work is in private collections. She teaches watercolor and pysanky (Ukrainian egg dying).
