Join us for a week of environmentally green fun turning trash and worn out items into works of art.  Explore different ways of transforming common items into something completely different with paint, glue and imagination.  To help with the upcycling, campers will be sent a list of items to rescue from their trash to be brought to camp to be made into objects of art.

Full-day campers (those registered for a morning and afternoon camp) will have a supervised lunch period from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at no extra charge.

  • **Sibling Discount** If you are registering more than one child for the same week of camp, please call the office at 908-234-2345 to learn how to receive $20 off each additional child.

    Health & Safety Policy:  The Center has updated its Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. COVID-19 vaccinations are suggested but not required. Mask wearing is welcome but not required. 

    In the event of a closure due to the COVID-19 virus, this class will move online using ZOOM. There will be no refunds or credits for classes that were scheduled to take place on-site but were moved to an online format for health and safety purposes.

    Cancellation Policy: A full refund will be given to students who cancel at least 3 weeks prior to the start of the Summer Camp Session, less a $50 cancellation fee, per registration. No refunds will be given for cancellations received with less than 3 weeks notice before the start of the Summer Camp Session.

    Behavior Policy: The Center reserves the right to dismiss any student for inappropriate behavior or failure to comply with The Center’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. In the case of dismissal, refunds will not be given. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Geraldine Ong, Director of Education Programs and Operations, at gong@ccabedminster.org.

  • The summer camp, Upcycled Art, is all about recycling and reusing items that would normally become trash. Some of the items we will be working with are not traditionally recycled. If possible, please send the following items to camp with your child on Monday. All of their items should be in a box labeled with their name. If you have extras, that would be great in case others in the class don’t have all of the items. The instructor will also bring in lots of these materials. Please don’t stress if you are missing some items - between all of us we should have more than enough.
    1. A variety of colorful paper scraps (magazines, old wrapping paper, shopping bags, etc.). No smaller than a 6”x6” square.
    2. 1 clean, empty plastic bottle, such as dishwashing liquid or almond milk bottles. These will be used as a human body shape for a sculpture.
    3. At least 2 or 3 boxes/containers that can be stacked to create a monster/robot/ imaginary creature. Nothing overly large as we will be covering them with paper mache. The stacked height should be about 12 - 14” high at most.
    4. Old buttons, beads, small shells, old or broken jewelry, fake gems, etc. Anything that can be used as embellishments. They need enough to decorate 2 projects.
    5. Old CDs
    6. A sturdy stick from the yard about 12” long - will be used to hang the CDs from for a wall hanging.
    7. A bunch of old papers cut into 1” wide, about 6” long strips to use for paper mache. Old newspapers, magazines pages, scrap office paper, junk mail, etc. is good. Precut strips will save time and allow them to begin the paper mache sculpting more quickly.
    8. Sturdy piece of cardboard about 12” square to use as a base for their paper mache.
    9. Bottle caps in assorted sizes, or other interesting pieces of scrap/trash. These will be used to add eyes, ears, arms, etc. to the imaginary creatures.
    10. Any other trash or recyclable item your child may find interesting.
Hallstrom, Wendy

Wendy is an instructor at Hunterdon Art Museum and the Center for Contemporary Art in western New Jersey, where she teaches both adults and children in various media. Wendy's primary mediums are watercolor and acrylics. She writes icons in egg tempera in the Russian tradition and contemporary icons in acrylic. Her work has been displayed in juried shows and is in several private collections. In addition to painting, Wendy has mastered the craft of Pysanky, Ukrainian egg decorating, and teaches this ancient technique throughout the Western NJ and Philadelphia region.
