This program is designed for young artists who love painting and who want to deepen and develop their skills. The class explores painting in acrylics, watercolors, and tempera with attention to the use of color, light, shadow, composition, and brush handling. Students will work from still life arrangements or favorite photographs. The teacher will provide frequent demonstrations. Students will also draw inspiration from the art on view in the galleries. Children are encouraged to repeat this class to continue building painting skills.

Catie James

Catie James is a digital and traditional media artist, who excels in art involving portraits, colored pencils, water soluble pastels, acrylic painting, watercolor, mixed media, and many drawing mediums. She has always loved art but really rediscovered her love for it during COVID-19. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2015 and started taking art classes at CCM in 2020. She has previously worked at The Visual Arts Center of NJ and  currently works at All Children’s Art Center in Denville, where she teaches art classes, spring and summer camps, and works as a teacher, supervisor, and social media manager. She loves bright colours, maximalism, good vibes, positivity, drawing faeries and other magical creatures, too. Her work is vibrant and colorful, filled with portraits, and is mostly done in watercolor, mixed media or digital mediums.
