This course offers a introduction to watercolor painting for those who have always wanted to try it but didn't know where to begin. Students will learn how to approach the underlying drawing that the watercolor is built on. Each week students will practice different building blocks to help master watercolors, such as mixing, basic washes, different types of paint strokes, and much more.

  • Watercolor for Beginners:
  • - A set of watercolors (tubes preferable)
  • - Palette with deep tins
  • - Drawing Board
  • - pH Neutral masking tape
  • - 140 lb. (or above) cold-pressed Watercolor paper (Arches recommended)
  • - Scrap watercolor paper (such as Canson XL or Strathmore 300 Series)
  • - cup/jar to hold water
  • - 4 Round watercolor brushes (sable or squirrel synthetic) Size 10 or above, size 6 or 8, size 2 or 4, size 0 or below
  • - 1 Taklon brush, Bright size 4
  • - eyedropper or jacquard syringe
  • - absorbent paper towels
  • - sketchbook
  • - HB pencil
  • - kneaded eraser
  • - reference photos
