For people with disabilities of any age, Supplemental Needs Trusts (SNTs) can be used to keep more income while still qualifying for Community Medicaid in New York. We’ll cover everything you need to know to help consumers enroll in pooled income trusts to shelter monthly income for Medicaid purposes. We will touch briefly on other types of SNTs and other uses for them, but this training will not cover how to draft an individual (d4a) SNT, nor how to shelter excess resources with an SNT for someone under 65.

Marie is a Supervising Attorney in the Public Benefits Unit at Bronx Legal Services. The Public Benefits practice is focused on providing legal services to vulnerable low-income Bronx residents who need assistance obtaining, retaining, or increasing vital government benefits such as cash welfare, rental subsidies, WIC, and SNAP as well as public health insurance such as Medicare and Medicaid and home care services.

Prior to joining Bronx Legal Services in 2017, Marie was a Staff Attorney at NYLAG specializing in Medicaid and Medicare eligibility and services, emphasizing the needs of low-income people seeking long term care. She has also represented and coordinated services for children with severe medical conditions and/or developmental disabilities as a care manager at SKIP of New York.

Marie graduated from Fordham Law School in 2011 as a Stein Scholar in Public Interest Law and Ethics and from Emory University in 2004 with a B.A. in Sociology. She lives in Narrowsburg, NY where she grows her pollinator garden, serves as nature photographer for the Narrowsburg Beautification Group and supports local initiatives to improve access to healthy food in rural Sullivan County.
