Intro to the Pottery Wheel

Discover the art of wheel throwing in this 10-week beginner-friendly course designed for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of pottery. Whether you've never touched clay before or are looking to build confidence on the wheel, this class will guide you through each step of the process.

You'll learn essential wheel-throwing techniques, including centering clay, pulling walls, and creating functional forms such as bowls, mugs, and cylinders. Along the way, you'll also explore trimming, handle attachment, glazing, and finishing techniques to complete your work from start to finish.

Through demonstrations, hands-on practice, and individualized instruction, you'll develop the skills needed to create beautiful handmade pottery while gaining confidence at the wheel.

No prior clay experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to get your hands muddy!




  • Intro to the Pottery Wheel (Wed AM)
    Wednesdays, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
    September 16 - November 18th, 2026
    10 classes, 30 hours total

    Limited to 8 Students
    • 1, 25 lb bag of clay is included in the cost of this class. Additional clay may be purchased, ask your instructor for more information. Use of studio glazes and firing are included in the cost of this class as well.
    • CCAA fires to Cones 6, using Standard stoneware clay. 
    • CCAA has community clay tools that can be borrowed during class time.  Speak with your instructor for recommendations if you would like to purchase your own tools.  
    • Clay is fun, but can get messy! Please bring an apron and/or towel for each class. 

    PLEASE NOTE:
    • Only work created at CCAA will be fired at CCAA.
    • Please do not bring other clay or glazes into the studio.
