Discover the joy of oil painting in this welcoming 5-week introductory course designed for beginners.
Learn the fundamentals of oil painting through step-by-step instruction, including essential materials, color mixing, brush techniques, and basic painting methods. As the course progresses, you'll gain confidence working from simple still life compositions while exploring light, form, color, and composition.
Whether you're new to oil painting or looking to strengthen your foundational skills, this class offers a relaxed and encouraging environment to learn, experiment, and enjoy the creative process.
Intro to Oil Paint- Session 2
*Session 1 & 2 are each independent of each other. You do not need to attend Session 1 to enroll in Session 2. If you choose to enroll in both classes, you will continue to build on your lessons from Session 1 into Session 2.
Class meets 1x per week on Mondays,
October 19th - November 16th, 2026

(5 Classes, 15 Hours Total)
- Bring what you have or purchase from our "suggested" supply list for the beginner. We will review supplies and materials at the first class.
"Suggested" Supply List;
- Bring what you can or already have and we will discuss materials in the first class.
- Oil Paint (if this is your first class or you are a beginner, we recommend buying an inexpensive oil paint set of basic colors to experiment with). A small set of 8-12 colors each about 21ml in size will be good to start with.
- Odorless Paint thinner(CCAA has limited Paint thinner for beginners to use)
- Settling Jar or Glass Jar for paint thinner (recycled, washed and clean jars with lids work well)
- Any oil painting brushes you are comfortable using (we have some brushes to borrow at CCAA). We can review sizes at the first class before you purchase.
- Rags or paper towels to wipe paint (you can use paper towels at CCAA)
- Painting surfaces of your choice. We have limited canvas donations at CCAA to use for your first class. We recommend 8"x10" canvas boards for your first few exercises.
- Graphite, pencils (4B and higher recommended for editing a painting)
- Vine charcoal for exercises
- Pad of drawing paper (at least 9"x12" in size)
