Always wanted to try the potter’s wheel? This 10-week beginner-friendly class is the perfect place to start! Guided by teaching artist George Gehringer, students will explore the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing, including centering, opening, and pulling clay to form cylinders, bowls, and more.
Each session will begin with a demonstration focused on specific forms and techniques—such as assembling multiple thrown pieces using calipers and slip joining to create covered jars and taller shapes. Creative surface design will be encouraged through the use of paddles, stencils, and layered slip applications in a variety of colors.
Students will learn and experiment with glazing techniques including mono-color with rim dip, pinwheel dipping, brushing, and highlighting to finish their pieces with personal flair.
Whether you're looking to learn a new skill, express your creativity, or just get your hands muddy—this course offers a supportive and inspiring introduction to the world of wheel-thrown ceramics.
