This three-hour class will begin by grounding ourselves in gratitude, connecting with our breath, and setting our intentions with a meditative prayer. Next, the students will gain insights into the rich history and symbolism of the centuries-old tradition of mandala art through visual storytelling. After that, they will paint a colorful, unique 6" x 6" mandala on a canvas while listening to the soothing, meditative music over warm chai and cookies, guiding them into a flow state.

- About the Artist:
Vidya Shyamsundar is a self-taught artist and educator. Born and raised in southern India, she has lived in the United States for over two decades. Now based in Needham, MA, Vidya brings her artistic vision to life in her studio at the Norwood Commerce Center in Norwood, MA.
Vidya paints mixed media mandalas on wooden boards that explore mindfulness and meaning. For Vidya, her creative journey is more than art; it is a guide for self-discovery fueled by an intent to explore and understand. In a world dominated by distractions, technology dependence, and diverse familial and community roles, Vidya emphasizes the need for a retreat in today's fast-paced lifestyle, often driven by the fear of missing out (FOMO). She believes that nurturing ourselves is essential for our internal growth and healing. Vidya showcases her work in juried art shows, galleries, and open studio tours. She also offers retreat-style art classes at yoga studios, art centers, and private events. She specializes in painting mandala murals and taking on commissioned works. Vidya was one of the featured artists on the summer 2023 episode of the WHYY-PBS Kids' television series Albie's Elevator - Box Town. Beyond her creative endeavors, Vidya enjoys spending quality time with her family, finding joy in organizing and decorating spaces, and exploring spiritual texts.
