Students will explore forms of expression through drawing and painting informed by the unique, pixilated style used by Vincent van Gogh throughout his brief career- not only in his colorful paintings but in the many drawn studies he produced in the time he spent in the town of Arles in the south of France where he would spend afternoons hiking through fields of sunflowers and rows of lavender, and explore the ancient Roman ruins that were tucked into the landscape.  Students will learn about classic subjects in painting that he explored throughout his entire career- landscapes (including nightscapes), portraits, interiors, still life, and genre scenes (scenes of everyday life/activity.)  Materials will include graphite, conte crayons, pastels, and tempera paint on multi-media-friendly paper.
