This class is designed to give the students a solid understanding on how to construct and paint facial features. The students will work from various sources including hand-outs, master paintings, and the model. The students will learn to create “painterly” features while maintaining well constructed forms. We will work on application, indication and manipulation of edge, value and color to better design features in our oil paintings. Instructor demonstrations and critiques are routine.

  • NOTE: Watts Atelier carries the supplies you will need for class! Students may purchase supplies before class by completing a purchase form and giving it to their instructor.

  • Painting Grounds (Preferred Brand: Fredrix)
  • 9”x12” to 16”x20” (Please stay within these size perimeters.)
  • Canvas: Fredrix prestretched canvas: red or green label
  • Panels: Fredrix archieval canvas panels
  • Brushes (Preferred Brands: Robert Simmons Signet Bristles and Langnickel Sables)
  • An assortment of rounds, filberts and flats in sable and bristle.
  • Below is an assortment of recommended sizes in bristles and sables.
  • (Note: It is not necessary to have all of these sizes but a good idea to work towards getting them.)

Graciano, Lucas

Lucas has been attending the Watts Atelier since 2001. He has worked in the video game industry working in Visual Development. Some of his game credits include: SOCOM 2 and 3, God of War, Alien Hominid, and Twisted Metal: HO. Lucas now freelances as an illustrator, some of his clients include: Sony Computer Entertainment, SOE, Wizards of the Coast, Reef, Upper Deck, Blizzard, White Wolf, and Quarto Publishing. His work can be seen in “Spectrum 15: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art”, “The Art of World of Warcraft TCG” as well as “Drawing and Painting the Undead”. Lucas was also a finalist in the 2008 Cover Competition for "American Artist Drawing" magazine.
