Don’t miss this opportunity to study animals up close at the San Diego Zoo. This class will emphasize the importance of on-site drawing of a wide variety of animals. Emphasis will be placed on the basics of gesture, rhythm and proportion. This class will take place entirely on location at the world famous San Diego Zoo.

Short term personalized student zoo pass included. Please indicate if you need a pass. Note: Short Term Student Passes are issued in students name and are non-transferable.

  • Note: First class meeting will be at the San Diego Zoo.
  • Zoo passes will be handed out at the first class meeting.
  • Sketch pad
  • 8”x11” to 11”x14” Preferably hard bound
  • Kneaded eraser

  • Prismacolor in a variety of earth tones, tuscan red, burnt ochre, sienna brown, white
  • Conte sticks in a variety of earth tones, white & black

Babbey, Tom

Tom Babbey has studied at the Watts Atelier for over a decade, and has taught at the atelier for nearly as long. As an avid naturalist, Tom's love for wildlife led him to discover his passion for animal art and creature design at an early age. Tom currently works as a freelance illustrator and concept artist for clients such as Wizards of the Coast, Paizo Publishing, Wizkids, Cubicle 7, Fantasy Flight Games, Sony Online, and Griffin Road Games, and is the lead Art Director for Draco Studios “Dragonbond’ setting.
